§ 34. Mr. Willeyasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make compulsory the slaughter of casualty animals in rooms separate from those used for normal slaughtering.
§ Mr. GodberNo, Sir. The slaughter of casualty animals may often require special care, but my right hon. Friend does not think it would be reasonable to compel all slaughterhouses to provide separate rooms for this purpose.
§ Mr. WilleyIn view of the fact that several widespread cases of food poisoning have been traced to such slaughter, will the Joint Parliamentary Secretary look at the matter again and see whether we cannot follow the standards enforced in many other countries and so avoid this danger to our health?
§ Mr. GodberI will look at the matter again, but I would remind the hon. Member that the Inter-Departmental Committee on Slaughterhouses did not include this as one of its recommendations.
