§ 43. Mr. Parkerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will introduce legislation to re-enact the Courts Emergency Powers Act, 1939, and apply it to special areas which have been unfavourably affected by the Suez crisis, so that leave of the court shall be required before judgment can be executed against a defendant who is in arrears with rent, mortgage payments or other debts.
§ Mr. ParkerIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is a very difficult problem in all these new depressed areas? What action do the Government propose to take?
§ Mr. BirchThere is a certain amount of trouble, but we do not believe that it is a matter requiring legislation.
