HC Deb 29 January 1957 vol 563 c851
51. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement as to the outcome of the discussions with Mr. Nehru.

The Prime Minister

I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave last Tuesday to the hon. Gentleman the Member for West Ham, North (Mr. Lewis).

Mr. Fletcher

Will the Prime Minister say whether Mr. Nehru gave the Government the benefit of any advice as to how to improve Anglo-American relations?

The Prime Minister

I am sure that the hon. Gentleman will accept that conversations of this kind cannot be helpful or fruitful if reports of them are to be made; they are confidential. They are valuable between Prime Ministers of different parts of the Commonwealth.
