HC Deb 25 February 1957 vol 565 cc834-5
8. Mr. C. Pannell

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether the Prime Minister's public relations adviser will preside at regular meetings of Government public relations officers as part of his work in connection with the coordination of Government information services.

Dr. Hill

No, Sir.

Mr. Pannell

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the difficulties that would arise even if such meetings as these were held? Has his attention been called to column 790 of last Friday's OFFICIAL REPORT of the debate on the motor car industry, where the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade said that all the financial sanctions were not an attack on the motor car industry but an attack on inflation? This is in contradistinction to the statement by the Prime Minister that these measures were deliberately designed to have an influence on the motor car industry. There is so much contradiction in Government statements.

Dr. Hill

With the best will in the world, I cannot understand how the question raised in the hon. Member's supplementary is related to the chairmanship of meetings of public relations officers.
