12. Mr. B. Harrisonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made with the construction of the pig progeny testing stations; and when he anticipates these will be in operation.
Mr. AmoryThe station at Selby should start full operations in June; those at Corsham, Letchworth and Sealand should all be ready to begin operations in October. I understand that the construction of the Scottish station at Bridge of Allan has begun and that it should be completed by the middle of next year.
Mr. HarrisonDoes my right hon. Friend realise that this is a most encouraging report? Will he make sure that nothing is done that might stop progress in this vital matter if farmers are to reduce their costs?
Mr. AmoryI entirely agree as to the importance of this project. I am most anxious to see the stations in operation because, as my hon. Friend will agree, their work is of a very long-term nature.
