asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, as representing the Lord President of the Council, what research is being conducted into the causes of a persistent failure of cows to produce milk of the required solids-not-fat standard.

Mr. Amory

Research along genetical, physiological and nutritional lines is in progress at the National Institute for Research in Dairying, Reading; the Hannah Dairy Research Institute, Ayr; the Rowett Research Institute Aberdeen; the three Scottish Colleges of Agriculture; and at Edinburgh University.

Mr. Champion

Has the Minister any idea when we may expect some results on this matter, particularly on the solids-not-fat point, which is causing difficulty in the industry?

Mr. Amory

In common with a great many other people, I wish I knew when results would come along.
