HC Deb 20 February 1957 vol 565 cc401-2
Mr. Teeling

I beg to ask leave to present a petition signed by over 119,000 persons resident in the south coast area and other parts of Great Britain to show that there is an urgent need in these areas for improving road communications and that the delay in carrying out such improvements is detrimental to the well-being of the areas and the country as a whole. The prayer of the Petition is as follows: Wherefore your petitioners pray that to ensure the early completion of adequate modern roads in Great Britain arrangements shall be made forthwith to raise a special road loan to provide the necessary funds during the period required to carry out this essential work under a comprehensive and scientifically planned scheme, so avoiding the delays and frustrations which have proved to be inevitable under the present system of financing road works by means of annual grants. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
