HC Deb 14 February 1957 vol 564 c1446
49. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister which of the Service Ministers are to accompany him to Bermuda.

The Prime Minister

While recognising the hon. Gentleman's great interest in Service matters, I am afraid I must disappoint him. I do not intend to take any of the Service Ministers with me.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Prime Minister not taking Service Ministers because he thinks they might frighten President Eisenhower as much as they frighten us? Will he consider taking the Lord Privy Seal, who is responsible for civil defence and who carries some weight in America? Alternatively, will he consider taking the retinue of ex-Defence Ministers with him?

The Prime Minister

The hon. Gentleman has worked in very well a new version of an old joke. I think that on this occasion it would be wiser for us to rest upon the teams that we shall agree for the discussion of the subjects which are most appropriate.

Mr. H. Hynd

Is it not important that the Prime Minister should take the Secretary of State for Air with a single ticket?
