§ 53. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions he has had with the National Farmers' Union regarding the Heneage Report; and whether he has come to a decision to implement any of the recommendations of this Report, particularly those relating to land drainage.
Mr. AmoryThe Heneage Committee's recommendations have been fully discussed with all the interests concerned, including the National Farmers' Union. I am not yet able to add to the reply given to the hon. Member for Anglesey (Mr. C. Hughes) on 6th December last, but I will do so as soon as possible.
§ Mr. JohnsonWhile thanking the Minister for that Answer, can he tell us when he will be able to do so? In view of the flooding, which is so prevalent in these villages and the low-lying areas, it is most important we do something about this very difficult matter.
Mr. AmoryI could not agree more with the last part of the hon. Member's supplementary question. It is important that we should do something. In reply to an earlier Question, I indicated that I hoped to be able to make some progress on perhaps a more limited front, and I hope quite shortly to be able to make a statement on that subject.
§ Mr. OsborneIn view of the fact that the Report has been issued for some years—by Lieut.-Colonel Heneage, the former Member for Louth—and since 1440 the people of Louth and in the coastal districts feel a sense of grievance, will he not do something fairly quickly and not leave the matter lying on the table for so long?
