HC Deb 13 February 1957 vol 564 cc1243-4
3. Mr. Leather

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will give details of all British bombing during the recent operations in Egypt.

Mr. Ward

The bombing which was carried out by the Royal Air Force in Egypt was against seven airfields; the barracks and equipment depots at Kasfareet, Al Maza and Huckstep; radio masts and installations near Abu Zabal; the marshalling yard near Ismailia; and the coastal defences at El Agami Island.

Mr. Leather

Is my right hon. Friend aware that Mr. Dulles recently told a Congressional committee that British bombers dropped bombs over Cairo? Will my right hon. Friend categorically deny that statement?

Mr. Ward

I have already done so. in reply to my hon. Friend on 4th February.

Mr. H. Hynd

Is it quite clear that none of the casualties at Port Said and Port Fuad, totalling about 3,000 and mentioned in the Government's White Paper, was caused by the bombing and, if so, what were they caused by?

Mr. Ward

The Royal Air Force dropped no bombs whatever on Port Said.
