HC Deb 13 February 1957 vol 564 c1272
61. Captain Pilkington

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what reply has been made to the Egyptian Government's unilateral abrogation of the 1954 Treaty.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

Her Majesty's Government are aware of the action which the Egyptian Government are reported to have taken but no communication has been received from the Egyptian Government and no reply has therefore been made. However, I can say that Her Majesty's Government regard the Agreement and their obligations under it as terminated.

Captain Pilkington

Does that Answer affect the right of British nationals to their property in Egypt?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

No, Sir. Such termination does not affect the right of Her Majesty's Government or of British nationals to their property in Egypt.
