HC Deb 12 February 1957 vol 564 cc1065-6
28. Miss Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for War what plans he is making in regard to Drake's Island, Plymouth.

Mr. J. Amery

We have now decided that the Army no longer requires Drake's Island.

Miss Vickers

While thanking my hon. Friend for his reply, may I ask him to consider removing some of the military installations before he vacates the island, because it will be very expensive for the local authority to do so, in order to make it a pleasant island for the inhabitants?

Mr. Amery

I will certainly look into that.
