HC Deb 05 February 1957 vol 564 c235
42. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that British troops in Germany are being treated in an unfriendly fashion by the Germans; and whether, in view of this behaviour, he will take steps to withdraw our troops from that country.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. John Hare)

No, Sir. Except for a few isolated incidents, relations between the Germans and our troops are friendly.

Mr. Shinwell

As the Answer is unsatisfactory and as a great deal more requires to be said about the subject, I hope to have an opportunity later to deal with it.

Mr. Bellenger

Does the Minister understand my right hon. Friend's Question to refer to the female population of Germany? If so, is it not true that my right hon. Friend is greatly misinformed?

Mr. Hare

I think there is probably quite a lot in what the right hon. Member for Bassetlaw (Mr. Bellenger) says.
