HC Deb 05 February 1957 vol 564 cc227-8
24. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether any decision has yet been reached on the representations made to him concerning the position of the consultant physician at the Elsie Inglis and Bruntsfield hospitals.

Mr. Nixon Browne

No, Sir. My right hon. Friend wishes to consider carefully the representations that have been made to him, and he is of course in consultation with the regional hospital board, which is responsible for the specialist services in the area.

Mr. Willis

Will the hon. Gentleman ask his right hon. Friend to bear in mind that there is very widespread opposition in Edinburgh—in all classes—to any change in the position there? Could he say when a decision is likely to be made?

Mr. Browne

My right hon. Friend will carefully note the views the hon. Member has expressed, but I do not think that at this stage I can usefully add anything to the Answer I have already given.
