HC Deb 17 December 1957 vol 580 c189
30. Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his consultations with the appropriate bodies have now been completed in respect of the three reports of the Law Reform Committee and when he intends to introduce legislation to give effect to the recommendations.

Mr. Maclay

The consultations to which I referred in my reply to the hon. Member on 21st May are proceeding. I am not therefore able to say when it will be possible to introduce legislation.

Mr. Hannan

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that in England they have already dealt with two similar reports? Cannot the right hon. Gentleman press on with this and rectify some of the matters in Scotland?

Mr. Maclay

The matter is not entirely in my hands. I have asked various interested bodies for comments on the First and Third Reports, and I must await their observations.
