HC Deb 09 December 1957 vol 579 c873
4. Mr. A. Allen

asked the Minister of Supply how far, and for what reasons, it is intended that rubber should replace leather for the soles of soldiers' boots.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Mr. W. J. Taylor)

To meet War Office requirements, a boot with a composition sole has been developed. Tests of this and of boots with leather soles are proceeding. A decision on the boot to be adopted for general service will be taken when tests have been completed.
