7. Mr. Fort

asked the Minister of Supply what action his Department has sponsored to overcome the technical problems of the Proteus turbo-jet aero engine during 1957.

Mr. Aubrey Jones

All promising solutions for the special icing problems besetting the Proteus turbo-propeller engine have received technical and financial support from my Department. A committee under the chairmanship of the Director of the Royal Aircraft Establishment has served as the focal point for investigations and Ministry of Supply Research Establishments have lent every assistance.

Has my right hon. Friend brought the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation in to help to solve these problems?

Mr. Jones

Yes, Sir. Both the commercial operators and, I think I am right in saying, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation have been represented on the Gardner Committee.
