HC Deb 16 April 1957 vol 568 cc1735-6
29. Mr. Moyle

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is now in a position to announce the names of the Chairman and members of the Clean Air Council with a view to implementing the provisions of the Clean Air Act, 1956.

The Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs (Mr. Henry Brooke)

The Act provides that the Minister shall be the Chairman of the Clean Air Council. I hope to be able shortly to announce the names of the other members of the Council.

Mr. Moyle

May I ask the Minister whether he will not express the same sense of urgency in connection with the formation of this important Council, particularly when he himself is chairman, and show the same zeal in this case as he has done in connection with the Rent Bill?

Mr. Brooke

A number of invitations have already gone out. The only reason why I do not want to make a further statement today is that I should like to be able to announce the full membership at one time.
