HC Deb 10 April 1957 vol 568 c1104
2. Mr. Brockway

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when it is proposed to begin the construction of the Slough by-pass.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (Mr. G. R. H. Nugent)

The statutory scheme establishing the route of the by-pass has just been made, but I cannot yet say when constructional work will begin.

Mr. Brockway

Will the hon. Gentleman ask his right hon. Friend to speed up the implementation of this long-promised by-pass, because not only the people of Slough but all who use this main road to the West are suffering from the congestion which takes place in the High Street and which contributes inevitably to the number of accidents?

Mr. Nugent

We shall certainly get on with it as quickly as we can, but we have given priority, as the hon. Gentleman knows, to the Maidenhead by-pass. We shall give a date for the Slough bypass as soon as possible.
