HC Deb 31 October 1956 vol 558 cc1437-8
20. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the political situation in British Honduras.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

My predecessor described in a statement to the House on 27th May, 1954, the political situation after the elections earlier that year. Since then the elected members of the Executive Council have played an energetic and valuable part in Government in accordance with the assurances given. Recently, however, as the result of differences among the leaders of the majority party, three of the leaders who are also members of Executive Council have resigned from the party and formed a new one. A General Election is due to take place next year, but the date has not yet been settled.
