HC Deb 31 October 1956 vol 558 c1413
1. Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what arrangements there are for police officers to transfer from Her Majesty's Overseas Service to home-based police forces and vice versa.

The Minister of State for Colonial Affairs (Mr. John Maclay)

There are no arrangements for regular transfer. There is from time to time a need for experienced United Kingdom police officers overseas ; in such cases they are made available by secondment or by special arrangement. There is no corresponding demand in the United Kingdom for the services of officers with experience in overseas forces.

Mr. Tilney

As teachers get seconded to the United States for the benefit of both countries, would my right hon. Friend consider further secondment on those lines in the police forces?

Mr. Maclay

That is a matter which would require the most careful consideration, but I have taken note of the hon. Member's comment.
