§ 27. Sir R. Robinsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies when it is hoped to complete the restoration of Nelson's Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua ; and whether sufficient funds have been raised for this purpose.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydWith my hon. Friend's permission, I will answer the latter half of the Question first. I am delighted to say that at the end of last year the Appeal Committee of the English Harbour Repair Fund achieved the task it set itself in 1953 of raising £40,000. Additional funds may be required later on for such purposes as the provision of facilities for visitors to the dockyard.
The task of structural repair should be substantially completed by the end of the year when the Governor, Sir Kenneth Blackburne, whose energy and leadership have been an inspiration to all concerned with this fine project, leaves the Leeward Islands.
§ Sir R. RobinsonIn view of the growing public interest in the matter, will my right hon. Friend suggest that there should be a suitable ceremony when the work is completed?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydCertainly.
