HC Deb 24 October 1956 vol 558 c628
25. Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action has now been taken on the Report of the principal auditor on the accounts of the Seychelles Islands for 1954.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Governor has taken action on a large number of points raised in the Report, and a detailed statement is being placed in the Library.

Mr. Swingler

Whilst thanking the right hon. Gentleman in anticipation for that statement, may I ask whether we are now to be assured that the Government Departments in the Seychelles are keeping proper accounts and that the laws and taxation approved by the Government will now be observed and levied in a proper way?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I hope that the hon. Member will read the statement first and ask me any questions afterwards.

Mr. Hobson

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the authorities in the Seychelles have been able to import a hydrometer to measure the density of spirits, which caused the trouble originally?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I think that all is well on that front.
