§ 11. Mr. K. Thompsonasked the Secretary to the Treasury what recent steps he has taken to obtain agreement for the use of modern cleaning devices in Government offices.
§ Mr. H. BrookeThe cleaning of Government offices is in fact the responsibility of the individual Departments; but the Treasury is keen to promote maximum efficiency. In 1954 and in 1955 the Treasury asked Departments to consider with their Staff Sides various methods of achieving this, including greater use of modern cleaning apparatus.
§ Mr. ThompsonCan my right hon. Friend say what answer the Treasury got to the appeal which it made to the Departments?
§ Mr. BrookeWell, we received various answers from various quarters. If our 1954 appeal had been wholly successful it might not have been necessary to repeat it so soon.
