HC Deb 30 May 1956 vol 553 c219
12. Vice-Admiral Hughes Hallett

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he has yet considered the Report of the Committee on Road Safety of January, 1954, on massed-start cycle racing; whether the conditions outlined in paragraph 21 of the Report have yet been met; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Molson

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend has considered this Report, and also studied the further views of the Departmental Committee on Road Safety, who considered the matter again in January last. He proposes to seek powers to deal with this matter in the Road Traffic Bill now before Parliament.

Vice-Admiral Hughes Hallett

Is my hon. Friend aware that his reply will give satisfaction not only to the police but also to the responsible cycling clubs, whose only wish is to co-operate with the authorities to see that this sport may be continued in safety and without inconvenience to other road users?

Mr. Molson

I am obliged to my hon. and gallant Friend for what he has said, and I think it will be approved also by all those who have road safety at heart.
