asked the Secretary of State for Air what estimate he has made of the saving in public expenditure to be effected by attaching the personnel of Auxiliary Royal Air Force squadrons to Regular squadrons; whether he is aware that efficiency would thereby be enhanced in an emergency; and if he will make a statement.

Under our present plans selected pilots from Royal Auxiliary Air Force squadrons are to be given training on swept-wing aircraft in Regular squadrons. Because of the re-equipment of the Regular squadrons we have only recently made a start with the attachment of Auxiliary pilots. We have not gained sufficient experience to indicate comparative costs
