HC Deb 09 May 1956 vol 552 cc1194-5
23. Mr. Currie

asked the Postmaster-General how many new telephones have been installed in North Down during the past 12 months; how many applications are now outstanding; and the average delay between application for, and installation of, a telephone in cases where there is no special priority.

Dr. Hill

Just over 1,000 telephones were installed in North Down during last financial year; 549 applications are outstanding, of which about a third are in course of provision or are under inquiry. Ordinarily, the application is met in six weeks though this is impossible where new plant is needed.

Mr. Currie

May I thank my right hon. Friend for that reply?

24. Mr. Currie

asked the Postmaster-General how many new public telephone kiosks have been installed in North Down during the last 12 months; and whether he is satisfied that an adequate and suitably sited number of such kiosks now exist.

Dr. Hill

Five, Sir. Six more are to be provided this year. I am in touch with my hon. Friend about the siting of one of the present kiosks, and if he has any other case in mind I will gladly look into it.
