HC Deb 09 May 1956 vol 552 c1190
12. Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the Postmaster-General what has been the capital expenditure in Shropshire for the provision of telephone kiosks in rural areas; and upon what basis he calculates what amount should be allocated to various counties.

The Postmaster-General (Dr. Charles Hill)

Expenditure last year was £1,045 and this year is expected to be £1,900. We try to meet the needs of the various counties so far as our resources allow, and before the annual financial allotments are fixed, we consult the Rural District Councils' Association.

Mr. Langford-Holt

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this is a widely scattered county, and will he review generally? Will he look again to see whether the allocation is adequate?

Dr. Hill

I should be glad to look at any point that my hon. Friend raises, though it is a sound principle to settle these allocations annually in consultation with the Rural District Councils' Association.
