asked the Minister of Health how many health authorities have made representations to him in favour of the registration of catering premises

Mr. Turton

I have not been able to trace a single representation to this effect.

Mr. Swingler

Is the Minister aware that a number of important local health authorities are engaged in trying to promote legislation to give them powers in this respect, a recent example being Leeds? Will he, therefore, enter into consultation with them to ascertain their views on this matter, since it is quite evident that a large number of important local authorities are in favour of action to register catering premises?

Mr. Turton

I have never found local authorities backward in making recommendations. In this case, I have not only investigated my own Department, in which the responsibility dates back to July, 1955, but I have also made inquiries in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries anti Food, and no trace of any recommendation can be found in that Department either
