HC Deb 07 May 1956 vol 552 cc822-3
36. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations have been made to the Yemen Government following the recent incidents on the Aden-Yemen frontier

Mr. Dodds-Parker

On 18th April, Yemeni tribesmen entered the Aden Protectorate in the Beihan area, fired on the Government Guard Post, and committed other lawless acts. When the incursion was reported, Her Majesty's Charge d'Affaires at Taiz made a strong protest to the Yemeni Government and demanded the immediate withdrawal of Yemeni tribesmen remaining inside the Aden Protectorate. Similar representations were made to the Yemeni Charge d'Affaires in London. The tribesmen have now withdrawn

Mr. Henderson

Do the Government of the Yemen accept responsibility for these marauding bands?

Mr. Dodds-Parker

A meeting between senior British and Yemen officials has taken place on the frontier, but we have not yet received a report on it.
