HC Deb 03 May 1956 vol 552 cc568-9
6. Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Education whether he will make a statement regarding the rebuilding of St. Joseph's Aided Primary School, Barking, and the building of a new county junior school to supply the needs of the Thames View Estate, Barking.

Sir D. Eccles

The Essex local education authority has asked for both these projects to be included in its building programme in 1957–58. I am considering its proposals.

Mr. Hastings

Does the Minister realise the urgency of the situation, because this new school is required to replace a school destroyed during the war by enemy action? Is he aware that the Thames View Estate is rather isolated, and, when completed, will contain nearly 2,000 new houses, and there must be somewhere for the many children on that large estate to go for their education?

Sir D. Eccles

I will pay attention to the reasons which the hon. Gentleman has given.
