§ 22. Mr. J. Edenasked the President of the Board of Trade by how much existing small duties on imported timber have been reduced to meet the representations made to him by a number of other countries.
§ Mr. LowThe tariff negotiations in Geneva, which I assume my hon. Friend has in mind, are still in train and, as my right hon. Friend said on 26th January, we cannot anticipate their outcome.
§ Mr. EdenIs my right hon. Friend aware that already it is difficult enough for home producers of timber to sell their products, and if steps are likely to be taken as a result of these discussions which will reduce those small duties it will make it still harder for them to sell their products?
§ Mr. LowWe have consulted, in confidence, trade associations and bodies likely to be interested in the outcome of the requests which we have received.
