§ 30. Mr. Swinglerasked the President of the Board of Trade the numbers of film quota defaults in the quota year ended September, 1955, and how they compare with the figures for the previous year; the number of prosecutions initiated against quota defaulters in the last quota year and how many of these were successful; and the proportion of these prosecutions which involved proprietors of five or less cinemas.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithIn the year ended 30th September, 1955, there were 1,171 defaults of which 529 were in respect of first feature films. The comparable figures for the previous year are 1,850 and 734. The returns for the last quota year ended 30th September, 1955, are still under examination and no prosecutions have so far been initiated in respect of defaults in that year.
