HC Deb 14 March 1956 vol 550 cc373-4
43. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will have a lay-by constructed in Hendon Way, near its junction with Great North Way, so that drivers approaching the roundabout from the north who have to ask the way can park their vehicles without obstructing other traffic.

Mr. Molson

We cannot do this immediately north of the junction, because a bus-bay is needed there, but we shall shortly provide a lay-by with a poster map about half a mile to the north of the junction.

Mr. C. I. Orr-Ewing

Is my hon. Friend aware that the congestion at this junction and at other points on the North Circular Road is very serious indeed and that it could be lessened if traffic were allowed to filter? It cannot be argued that pedestrians would be endangered, because there are very few pedestrians there. Would he look at the possibility once again of filtering traffic?

Mr. Molson

Yes, Sir. I will very gladly look into that question.
