HC Deb 12 March 1956 vol 550 cc23-4
24. Mr. C. Hughes

asked the Minister of Health whether he has yet arrived at a decision on the question of increased remuneration to pharmacists for dispensing for the National Health Service; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Turton

No, Sir. Their recent claim is still under consideration.

Mr. Hughes

Has there not been a rather long time spent in arriving at a settlement in this matter? Is not the Minister aware that many dispensing chemists, performing vital work under the National Health Service, are facing grave financial difficulties because of the inadequacy of their remuneration, and will he not do something to hasten a settlement in this matter?

Mr. Turton

I do not think there has been any great delay. The claim was made on 16th February. There was a meeting on 8th March, and the matter is being considered further in the light of that discussion.
