HC Deb 07 March 1956 vol 549 cc2086-7
14. Mr. Hobson

asked the Postmaster-General the amount of accommodation vacated by the London Telecommunications Department consequent upon the transfer of the Telephone Manager's Department, N.W., to Shoot Up Hill, N.W.2, and the net saving in cost to his Department.

Dr. Hill

Forty-six thousand square feet, mostly in requisitioned buildings. When the new building was opened in 1953, the saving as compared with previous rental payments was estimated at about £2,000 a year.

Mr. Hobson

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is a justification of the previous Administration, and will he look around for other parts of Britain where similar rationalisation of building space could be effected?

Dr. Hill

I am glad to hear what the hon. Gentleman has to say. This is an excellent building, and I do not deny it for one moment.
