HC Deb 07 March 1956 vol 549 c2107
51. Dr. King

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, now that the Transport Commission has considered the recommendations of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee, he will make a statement on the future of the Southampton-Le Havre boat service.

Mr. Watkinson

I am informed that the British Transport Commission has not yet completed its consideration of this recommendation, and I have therefore nothing to add to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Joint Parliamentary Secretary on 25th January.

Dr. King

Will the Minister bear in mind that this service is of great importance to the sister ports of Southampton and Le Havre, and that the temporary reprieve is welcome news to both cities? Will he see that this great service, which is of international importance, receives the enthusiastic support both of the Commission and himself?

Mr. Watkinson

Yes, I agree—but in any case the service is going on at the moment.
