HC Deb 06 March 1956 vol 549 cc1924-5
54. Mr. T. Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many local authorities' proposals for the demolition or repair of unfit houses have been approved with and without modification.

Mr. J. Stuart

Proposals have been submitted by 219 authorities and of these 198 have been approved. I have had no occasion to make any formal modifications, although in 29 cases the proposals were adjusted by agreement with the authorities before approval.

Mr. Fraser

Was the adjustment made in the proposals in favour of more or of fewer houses being demolished as unfit?

Mr. Stuart

I should require notice of that question. The adjustments were of a minor character, and they were amended by agreement.

55. Mr. T. Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many local authorities have asked for an extension of the period within which to submit proposals for dealing with unfit houses; and in how many cases an extension was granted.

Mr. J. Stuart

Twenty-five authorities asked for, and 22 were granted extensions. Proposals are still outstanding from only six of these authorities.
