§ 23. Major Anstruther-Grayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now given consideration to a proposal put forward by Dunbar and certain other burghs for the staggering of school holidays.
§ Mr. J. StuartI have considered this proposal, but I do not think that staggering of school holidays would be an effective way of attaining the object which the holiday resorts have in mind.
§ Major Anstruther-GrayBut is my right hon. Friend aware that this was purely a tentative suggestion, and that it is worth exploring every possible way to relieve the congestion during the short holiday period?
§ Mr. StuartI see the point made by my hon. and gallant Friend. I think that the hon. Member for Hamilton (Mr. T. Fraser) has some experience in these matters. I am afraid that it is not very easy to alter these old habits and customs.
