HC Deb 06 March 1956 vol 549 c1918
44. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the terms of the reply which he is sending to warders who have protested to him against the abolition of the death penalty.

Mr. J. Stuart

I have not received written representations from the Scottish Branch of the Prison Officers' Association but I am informed that it associates itself fully with the representations which, as my hon. and gallant Friend is aware, the Association has made to my right hon. and gallant Friend the Home Secretary.

Major Anstruther-Gray

May we take it that my right hon. Friend is working in close co-operation with the Secretary of State for the Home Department in his reception of these representations?

Mr. Stuart

If it were not for the fact that I am so fond of the Home Secretary, I might almost say that I see almost too much of him.
