§ 5. Mr. Doddsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what decision has been reached in respect to the banning of dyed kippers on health grounds.
§ Mr. DoddsWill the right hon. Gentleman explain why it is that, despite the evidence which is available, people are still having to buy kippers stained golden brown in colour by coal-tar dye? Is it not about time that precautions were taken to give people proper kippers?
Mr. AmoryI explained to the hon. Gentleman that this matter is involved in 1682 all the questions which arise out of the Report and of the representations that I have received recently, and that I do not feel that it would be right to decide the question of colouring matter for kippers in advance of deciding all the other questions that have to be considered. I have said that I hope to make a statement within about two months.
