HC Deb 28 June 1956 vol 555 c683
32. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he will arrange for the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference to consider raising the status of self-governing Colonial Territories relevant to membership of the Commonwealth in order to avoid invidious distinctions.

Commander Noble

It is not the practice to disclose the subjects to be discussed at meetings of Commonwealth Prime Ministers.

Mr. Sorensen

Nevertheless, would not the hon. and gallant Gentleman agree that this matter is of very great importance, that the present position is most ambiguous, and that it should therefore be discussed at an early date, in order to give some guidance to those territories which are developing towards complete self-government?

Commander Noble

I have nothing to add to the Answer which I gave.

Mr. Sorensen

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise the matter at the earliest opportunity.
