HC Deb 28 June 1956 vol 555 cc694-5
50. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Prime Minister if he will now state the Government's policy on broadcasting in anticipation of Parliamentary debates.

The Prime Minister

The Report of the Select Committee, which was published last Friday, is at present under consideration. A little time will be needed before a statement can be made.

Mr. Donnelly

Is the Prime Minister aware that, within its terms of reference, the Report of the Select Committee could not have made more clear what the Committee thought of the 14-day rule, and that in fact it is really a lot of mumbo-jumbo? Does the right hon. Gentleman not think that it is in the best interests of the House to throw that mumbo-jumbo through the window?

The Prime Minister

It is in the best interests of the House that I have a little consultation with hon. Members as to what they wish to be done. That we propose to do before we make any further move.
