HC Deb 26 July 1956 vol 557 c632
45. Miss Herbison

asked the Prime Minister what consideration he has given to the need for an extra Minister at the Board of Trade.

The Prime Minister (Sir Anthony Eden)

I am satisfied that there is no need for an extra Minister at the Board of Trade.

Miss Herbison

Is the Prime Minister aware that either the number of Ministers is inadequate or his present Ministers are hopelessly inadequate? If he is not aware of either of those things, will he carry out an investigation to ascertain why the Ministry is so inefficient at present?

The Prime Minister

I do not think I accept the hon. Lady's last conclusion. I think she will agree with me that, even if Ministers are not always as accessible as she might wish on some occasion, that would not be a final argument for increasing the number of Ministers. Otherwise, we might find quite a multiplication sum going on.
