HC Deb 23 July 1956 vol 557 c36
Mr. Fenner Brockway

On a point of order. I apologise, Mr. Speaker, for not having given notice of this matter, but I did not anticipate that it would arise. Last Tuesday, I asked whether you would accept a Private Notice Question upon the subject of the situation in Nigeria. You suggested that I should place a Question upon the Order Paper. The hon. Member for Rugby (Mr. J. Johnson) and I have Questions upon the Order Paper today. In view of the serious situation in the largest of our Colonies, which may affect the Constitutional Conference in September, may I ask you whether the Secretary of State for the Colonies might be asked to answer those Questions today?

Mr. Speaker

I am sorry, but that is not possible. I have received no request from the Minister to answer these Questions. The hon. Member will receive a Written Answer, and upon the basis of that he will be able to decide his future action.

Motion made, and Question proposed, That this House do now adjourn.—[Mr. Heath.]
