§ 31. Mr. G. Jegerasked the President of the Board of Trade what quantities of tomatoes have been imported from Bulgaria this year.
§ Mr. LowNo fresh tomatoes, 197 cwt. of tomato puree, and 524 cwt. of other canned tomatoes in the first five months of this year.
§ Mr. JegerDoes the right hon. Gentleman think that the best form of East-West trade which can be devised is to export valuable machinery to Bulgaria in return for which we get tomatoes, often in cans or bottles, at a time when our own tomato crop is coming on the market and almost a glut is resulting?
§ Mr. LowTrade is a two-way matter, and some facilities—the House will know they are restrictive facilities—are given to countries in Eastern Europe for this sort of thing, including Bulgaria.
