HC Deb 30 January 1956 vol 548 cc603-4
39. Mr. Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the long lapse of time since the Courts of Justice in the Argentine took up the question of compensation for British holders in the Anglo-Argentine Tramways take-over, he will now consider approaching the Argentine Government as to whether a decision can be speeded up.

Lord John Hope

Yes, Sir. Her Majesty's Ambassador at Buenos Aires has been instructed to ask the new Argentine Government for their sympathetic consideration of this case with a view to settling the long drawn-out litigation which has occurred.

Mr. Teeling

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this will give considerable satisfaction to a large number of very small people in this country who have been waiting for a long time and who hope that once this decision has been reached they will get further compensation?
