HC Deb 25 January 1956 vol 548 c188
17. Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for Air what were the ratios of Air Ministry, civilian and Service personnel, respectively, to personnel maintaining and operating front line aircraft in 1938;and what are the ratios at the present day.

Mr. Birch

The detailed figures for 1938 are not available. I can however give the ratio of the staffs service and civilian at the Air Ministry Headquarters to the total strength of the Royal Air Force. In 1938 it was about 1 to 15 and in 1955 about 1 to 30—much better.
