HC Deb 25 January 1956 vol 548 c186
7. Mr. E. Johnson

asked the Postmaster-General how many new telephones were installed in Manchester in the years 1950 and 1955, respectively; and how many applications are still outstanding.

Dr. Hill

In 1950, 7,128 telephones were installed; in 1955, 12,263. At present 10,606 applications are outstanding, and 3,446 either in course of being met or under investigation.

Mr. Johnson

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this great improvement has given considerable satisfaction to the people of Manchester, and may we expect that it will be maintained?

Dr. Hill

A great deal of work is going on now and more is planned for new starts this year in the Manchester area.
