HC Deb 28 February 1956 vol 549 cc987-8
24. Mr. Lindgren

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he has yet reached a decision in regard to the redevelopment of the St. Thomas's Hospital site; and what consultation has taken place on the project with the local planning authority.

Mr. Sandys

I presume the hon. Member is referring to London University's proposals for rebuilding the medical school.

In view of the national importance of this site facing the Houses of Parliament, and adjoining Lambeth Palace, I have called in the planning application for my decision. Meanwhile, I have ordered a public inquiry.

Mr. Lindgren

May I take it that the Minister will consult the planning authority prior to coming to a decision?

Mr. Sandys

Naturally.
